Life’s hardest reminders: lessons in what truly matters

Life has a way of reminding us what truly matters, often in the most unexpected and jarring ways. Over a short period, I was served several such reminders. I was diagnosed with chronic urticaria, experienced my first asthma attack, witnessed a fatal car accident up close, and unexpectedly lost two friends - both of whom left young children behind.

Through these events, fear became an unwelcome companion. I found myself worrying that I might not see my boys, Jack and Alfie, start school. That fear crystallized something I already knew deep down: life is precious, fragile, and unpredictable. What truly matters is love, presence, and intentionality. It’s about capturing and cherishing the moments that make life meaningful and ensuring that those you love always know exactly how deeply they’re loved.

When I was due to return to work after maternity leave, I felt a different pull. Like countless other parents, I carried a quiet guilt about not having prepared for life’s “what-if” moments. I wanted to get my ducks in a row, not just for myself, but for my family - and in the process, I realised I wanted to help others do the same.

That’s when I made the leap. I stepped away from a successful career helping big businesses be a force for good and poured my energy into something deeply purposeful and people-first, but far more personal.

Through this journey, I’ve discovered the extraordinary power of sharing words, values, and stories. That power is as fierce in life as it is in the boardroom. A simple letter, a recorded story, or a captured memory can hold meaning for generations. It’s about connection, clarity, and ensuring that the people who matter most always know exactly where they stand in your heart.

I’m still driven to make a positive impact, but now my focus is different. My ambition is grounded in family and in acts of thoughtfulness - one moment, one gesture, one story at a time. It’s a way of living that honours the fragility of life, embraces what we hold dear, and ensures that love is never left unspoken.

Life has a way of teaching us lessons we cannot ignore. For me, these experiences have been a stark reminder that what we leave behind isn’t just accomplishments, awards or accolades - it’s the care we take, the words we share and the moments we choose to make meaningful. And that is enough. Stay tuned for more!
